A Christmas Carol
What an incredible film. I’ve seen it, probably 40 times and it never fails to deliver. The story and the acting are amazing. Dickens’ tale of a ruthless, grasping, selfish business man brought to his knees by the truth of his callus dealings with other people and the utter worthlessness of his life is still relevant enough today to give us all pause.
2001 – A Space Odyssey
An amazing movie. It tells the story of human evolution, more specifically, the story of the evolution of intelligence, from our primitive ancestry as apes through to the present and future days, where mankind has finally found the solution to its never-ending woes and conflicts and is working together from a Global perspective to solve our world problems.
13 Reasons Why
Whether you accept the premise that (1) others can be held responsible for a person committing suicide and (2) that suicide is morally justified and somehow an acceptable option in life – which I personally do not (unless a person has made the personal choice for assisted suicide due to medical reasons), its hard to argue that from a writing perspective 13 Reasons Why is firing on all cylinders and is a remarkable achievement. Suicide is never an option. But why people chose that path, why Hannah chose that path as depicted in this series compels our engagement.
